Volunteer New York!

As we munch on our Thanksgiving leftovers and prepare for the parade of spending events this week—Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday—we should be mindful of the most important date of them all: Giving Tuesday.

Traditionally celebrated on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday—the international day of charitable giving—inspires do-gooders all around the world to volunteer or donate to their favorite nonprofits. And now, teens are getting into the spirit, too.

#GivingTuesdaySpark is a global movement that's inspiring youth specifically to take action around the causes they care about most. This can be as simple as setting up a collection box of nonperishables to donate to a food pantry or as substantial as establishing your own nonprofit organization (like Ellie Zimmerman did when she founded Interns 4-Good).

Teens who want to give back this year can visit GivingTuesdaySpark.org to find project ideas and get started. Seriously, it's that easy!

On Tuesday, December 1, go ahead—light that spark—and find a project you're passionate about. You can make a real difference in your own backyard.
