Every year, JCY-Westchester Community Partners—a nonprofit that aims to improve children's literacy—asks volunteers of all ages to devote a few minutes each week to helping a child learn to read during its Summer Reading Buddies program. This year, Summer Reading Buddies is going virtual, so you can help kids read from your own cozy reading nook at home!
Volunteers will be matched with a young reading buddy so they can read together and work on their literacy skills. The project occurs over the course of six weeks, so this is a great project for students looking for an ongoing opportunity, youth groups who want to volunteer together, or volunteers who need to complete many community service hours. It's also perfect for those who hope to become teachers and work with kids one day.
Volunteers can choose which day of the week and time of day they're available, and all training will be provided. A basic knowledge in using computers and Zoom helps!
See below for program details and to sign up. But hurry—spots fill up quickly. Happy reading!
