Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day of action for volunteers to help bring about MLK’s vision for a world where divisions between race, class, and gender are unified in solidarity. Even during the COVID-19 epidemic, there are a multitude of ways to get involved in local opportunities—with many of them being virtual. Below is a list of thought-provoking and insightful opportunities to gather knowledge and understanding of inequities in our society and ways to heal them. 21st Annual MLK Legacy Youth Awards

Organization: African-American Men of Westchester
When: Monday, January 17 at 12 p.m.

African- American Men of Westchester is hosting a virtual event for the 21st Annual MLK Legacy Youth Awards, which will honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of social justice. This ceremony will also highlight young people who have committed themselves to furthering his vision of a society where individuals—regardless of race and ethnicity—are fully valued as human beings worthy of personal dignity and protection under the law. 1st Annual Yorktown Youth Keeping the Dream: Celebrating Character, Kindness and Thoughtful Service

Organization: Alliance for Safe Kids

This youth-led event was purposefully aligned with Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to honor Dr. King's legacy of inspirational service and leadership. Dr. King's words—"Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve"—will echo throughout the afternoon.

2022 Tell Me the Truth Virtual Seminar

Organization: YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester
When: Monday, January 17 at 3 p.m.
Location: Virtual (Zoom)

YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester presents its Tell Me the Truth Virtual Seminar with educators Shay Stewart-Bouley and Debby Irving. They will discuss the systemic racism that affects our local communities today and ways to remedy the inequities resulting from past discriminatory policies. Participants will also be provided with an understanding of how to recognize some of their own personal biases and how to confront them in their daily lives. Attendance is free, but Zoom registration is required.

2022 MLK Webinar: Honoring Dr. King's Legacy through Direct Action, Resilience and Community Service
