The mission of the Food Bank for Westchester is to educate the public about hunger and food-insecurity and to create a hunger-free environment. The Food Bank is the backbone of the country’s emergency food supply, providing 95% of food to 227 frontline hunger-relief programs throughout the county, including food pantries, soup kitchens, residential treatment facilities, and senior and day-care centers. The Food Bank estimates that 200,000 people in the county are hungry or food insecure, meaning they don’t have consistent access to adequate, nutritious food for a healthy lifestyle. Half of them are seniors; one-third of them are children. The Food Bank for Westchester is a member of Feeding America, the national food bank network.
