Volunteer New York!

Commemorate African-American heritage and culture during Peekskill's annual Juneteenth Festival and Parade.

Juneteenth National Independence Day (or Juneteenth, as it's more commonly known) is a federal holiday that recognizes the anniversary of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Although only first declared as a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth has been celebrated throughout the country since June 19, 1866—the one-year anniversary of the day that freedom was proclaimed for slaves in Galveston, Texas.

Juneteenth is an excellent opportunity to learn  about African-American history, culture, and Civil Rights progress—as well as to support the community with volunteer service. This year, the City of Peekskill is hosting a day-long Juneteenth Parade and Festival—and volunteers are needed! Read more below about how to sign up.
